Transportation of goods is a service. Its origins date back to ancient times. Merchants of the time used the strength of the legs of animals or their own to transport their goods. The road network was very limited, inaccessible and primitive. Nowadays, the transport of goods is carried out in a mass and continuous manner. The basis of road transport are vehicles, which as a whole constitute the transport fleet. We can use this term both in relation to a given country, region or just in relation to a company.

Cars used to transport goods are subject to a number of restrictions. These include, inter alia, mandatory equipment for each tractor. According to the regulations, each tractor should be equipped with at least two triangles, a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. Depending on the transported goods, the car must also have anti-slip mats, transport belts for securing loads, protective angles, and spreader bars. An additional requirement is to have the appropriate documents with you, which include: a transport license, registration certificate, civil liability insurance, leasing or rental authorization (if applicable), a certificate of exhaust emission standards.
In tractors used for transporting goods, it is one of the necessary elements of equipment, defined by many legal provisions. In general, there are definitely trends in legislating that all vehicles used for the transport of goods should be equipped with tachographs. At the beginning, tachographs were part of the equipment of cars with a permissible total weight of 40 tons and above. Today there are plans to equip even small buses that can transport goods weighing from one ton and up with a tachograph.
In general, the tachograph is a device recording vehicle functions and driver's work. So, with the help of the tachograph, we can see the speed at which the vehicle was moving, the distance traveled, and check all the driver's activity: his driving time, work, rest, and other work or time at his disposal.
Until 2006, analog tachographs were installed on tractors. On the other hand, digital tachographs began to be installed in vehicles after 2006 (to be exact from May 1, 2006). Digital tachographs record more events. The amount of saved data is constantly increasing and the tachographs themselves are changing more and more into intelligent devices. Currently, first generation digital tachographs are used in tractors. However, from August 2025, each vehicle will have to have second generation digital tachographs. This change will cause some of the current duties of drivers to be taken over by the tachograph and they will be performed without additional driver intervention. The catalyst for these changes is the provisions of the mobility package, according to which the driver must now manually register the crossing of national borders while performing his work. 2nd generation tachographs, in cooperation with the GPS system, will do it automatically.
Transportation concerns all kinds of cargo. One of the types are dangerous goods, in practice known as ADR goods. The transport of dangerous goods is covered by the provisions of the international ADR agreement. It is in fact a European agreement for the transport of dangerous goods by road. It is valid throughout Europe. It has a number of attachments. One of them describes which goods are classified as dangerous goods and therefore it is necessary to apply ADR regulations. These regulations state that transport may only be performed by a driver with additional knowledge of the transported hazardous materials. This fact is confirmed by obtaining the appropriate certificate by the driver. Additionally, the ADR regulations provide for special additional equipment for the tractor and the driver.
A vehicle that transports dangerous goods (ADR) must contain items ensuring the safety of: the vehicle's crew, other road users and the environment. Therefore, these are elements of fire and emergency equipment as well as personal protective equipment:
